Senior BB Win Provincial Championship

The Hair World Belleville Bearcats Senior BB womens hockey team recently won the Provinciacl championship. The team went undefeated posting a 6-0 record, led by strong team defence, balanced scoring and excellent goaltending by Kalen Johnson and Katy Carter. The tandom allowed only 3 goals while posting 4 shutouts in the 6 games.

The bearcats started off the tournament with a hard fought 1-0 win over Port Stanley, Sherry Gibson scoring from Sarah Hurst with 28 seconds left in the game. Game 2 saw the bearcats explode for 9 goals beating Orangeville Tigers Carole Lapensee and Sarah Smith led the way with 4 points each.

Game 3 ended in a 2-0 win over the Toroto Thunder Lapensee and Sarah Reid getting the goals. The quarterfinals brought a strong Cobourg team, but the bearcats came out on top trimming them 2-1. Jami Adams scored the first goal assisted by Reid and Lapensee, with Reid scoring the 2nd assisted by Admas and Smith.

In the semis the Bearcats faced Harrow County Blues winning in overtime 3-2 with goals from Adams from Lapensee, Ashley Payette from her sister Brett and Lapensee getting the timely goal in the first shift of overtime from Reid and Smith.

The final game was penalty filled with Belleville coming out on top with a 3-0 win over Aurora Panters, with the Bearcats scoring a goal in each period. Reid scored the first goal from Smith and Adams, with Adams getting the 2nd from Reid. Amber Gibson rounded out the scoring with assist going to Nicole Bureau and Lapensee.

The Bearcats team members were Kalen Johnson, Katy Carter, Amber Gibson, Sherry Gibson, Sarah Smith, Nicole Bureau, Carole Lapensee, Ashley Payette, Brett Payette, Sarah Hurst, Odie Morningstar, Sarah Reid, Jami Adams with Isabelle Langevin (asst coach) and Brenda Smith (trainer).

Coach Ken Anderson would like to thank his team and coaching staff for winning his 3rd provicial Champioship. The Team would also like to thank THE HAIR WORLD for there many years of sponsership.
